Make an Easter card layering solid and gingham ribbon. For this handmade easter card, I used the colors on the sticker to help coordinate the colors for the ribbon and the rest of the card. The sentiment was created on my computer and printed on vellum paper but you can use a stamp instead.
Think of simple and quick homemade card ideas by creating a sentiment on your computer and printing it out on lightweight, white cardstock paper. I originally created the sentiment for a thank you card but changed the text from a thank you greeting to an Easter. Once the sentiment is printed and trimmed, assembling the card is quick. The Easter card is embellished with a dimensional sticker, adhesive gems and satin ribbon.
Your homemade card ideas can be inspired by a cute sticker. For this Easter handmade card making project, I used a border punch to create the white frame but you can use a precut shape. I printed the sentiment on vellum paper and adhered a bunny and egg sticker.

Holiday cards can be made from scraps of pattern paper that are remnants from your scrapbooking supplies. Personalize it or add a sticker on the front to make it unique.
You can purchase a sheet of dimensional stickers and use just one for your card to make it simple but elegant. This is more economical so that you can make more cards from the one sheet of stickers. When you use too many stickers, the card just looks bombarded with stuff.
If you are planning on personalizing the card, consider who you are making it for. What is their favorite color, hobbies, pets. Does he/she like shoes, purses, food or sports? Is she/he artsy, loves nature, or is a city/country folk? Does he/she have contemporary, classic or natural style. Incorporate these details into your card.
Your idea can be simple if you're pressed for time or it can be more elaborate if you're considering using different kinds of card making techniques and embellishments.
When you make a birthday card, you'll get a warm reception from the birthday party guests when the birthday girl/guy opens your card and singles you out as the "one" who made that beautiful and clever card.

There are so many tools and embellishments available these days that coming up with card making ideas seem endless. You can create beautiful, handmade birthday, thank you, Valentines, Christmas and get well cards using a plethora of materials.
One popular tool is craft punches. I love using craft punches because my cutting skills aren’t so refined. Since the cut is pretty precise, using craft punches give your card a professional, polished appearance.
One of my favorites is the 1/2" corner punch. You can round off one, two or all four corners of your card. Rounded corners help soften the look of a card. Find a corner punch that you can punch three layers of paper together. If you are punching three layers of cardstock paper, the punch has to be strong enough to punch out the corners cleanly and not destroy the tool at the same time.
TIP: Cut two or three different sizes of rectangles or squares in different colors that coordinate with your card, each 1/8" smaller than the other, and round off the corners. Then layer them about 1/8” apart to give a dimensional effect.

TIP: You can also use a corner craft punch on your photos. Cut a shape from cardstock, 1/8” larger than your photo and round off the corners with a corner punch.

Round off corners of your photo as well and then place your photo over the larger shape which will create a frame for your photo.
A ¼” corner punch is great for making tags as well as rounding off corners from square or rectangle shapes.

TIP: To give depth to a card, cut out a rectangle or square shape, round off all four corners using a corner punch and then adhere foam tape on the back.

For your handmade card ideas, put your sentiment, sticker or other embellishment onto the rectangle or square shape. You can also apply chalk paint to soften and highlight the edges.
Decorative corner punches are pretty and delicate. I like to use it on solid color paper or paper that isn’t so busy because you lose the fine detail of the punch design.

My other favorite craft punch is border punches. As of this article, I only have one design but it has been so versatile, I’ve utilized it on many of my handmade card ideas. You can include a punched border on the sides, middle and bottom of your card.
TIP: Cut strips of paper using different colors that coordinate with your card. Punch out one side of the edge of each strip and layer by overlapping the strips.

For this graduation card I used my 1" circle punch on all four corners of the sentiment to create the journal type label. I accented the card with blue and green brads so they coordinate with the color scheme.
For your graduation card ideas, start off with a black and white color combination and then accent it with red. I used Fiskars' Round the Bend corner punch on this handmade card making project. I punched all four corners of the sentiment and the red border around the sentiment.
When making graduation cards, look to the web for free clip art. For this and my other homemade card ideas, I go to Microsoft's website for a variety of images. I used a diploma for this graduation card and added glitter to the ribbon.
Homemade graduation card ideas can be simple if you are thinking of making one for a guy. I try to keep the bows at a minimum when thinking of paper cardmaking ideas for him. I used browns and blues for this greeting card and punched out the sentiment using Fiskars' Extra Large Round-n-Round Squeeze Punch. I created the blue eyelet trim using Fiskars' Embossing Eyelet Lace Border Punch.
Here is the girl or female version of the card. I used pink, black and white colors instead of blue. You can change the colors to whatever you want or use school colors as well. I also added a small flower sticker over the knot instead of leaving it empty.
Circle punches are great for adding a sentiment or featuring an embellishment.

TIP: Using a graphic software program, create a dotted circle large enough that it fits just inside the circle, close to the edge of the punch. You can also include a sentiment or personalized message. Print it out on light cardstock paper.
Start your hand made card ideas with a stamp. The stamp I used for making this thank you card had a little flower and "thanks" on it. I decided on a paper print to use and colored the stamp to match the color on the print. The white strip is punched from a decorative border craft punch and I used a scallop circle punch on the stamp.
For your homemade card ideas, try using lots of punches. Make a thank you card using a scallop border punch, corner punch and flower punches. After I punched the blue paper using a scallop border punch, I taped it over stripe paper and then punched all four corners using a 1/2" corner punch. The flowers were created using two flower punches so I had different sizes.
