Difficulty Level: Intermediate
You Will Need:
  • A plain black folded card (C6)
  • Spare thick white card
  • Embossing heat tool
  • Silver embossing powder
  • Clear embossing pen
  • Spray on glue (I used 3M's Spray Mount)
  • Scissors / craft knife
  • Pencil and ruler

Directions For How To Make This Musical 'Making Card' Idea

  1. Cut: Use your ruler to draw a line down the front flap of your card, approximately 5cm away from the center-fold. Put aside the remaining piece of black card. You'll use this to make the black keys later.
  2. Emboss: Next you need to emboss the front flap with the words 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAESTRO!'

Write it out in capital letters, along the edge of the trimmed front card flap, with your clear embossing pen. Use the silver embossing powder and your embossing heat tool to emboss the words onto your card.
  3. Black Keys: On your spare piece of black card, measure out a grid that is approximately 3.3cm high, and that has five boxes, each approx. 1cm wide. Cut them out.
  4. White Keys: On your spare piece of white card, measure out a grid that is approximately 5cm high, and that has seven boxes, each approx. 2cm wide. Draw out an extra box on the end (same height - 5cm) but this time make it approx. 0.5cm wide. Cut the white boxes out.
  5. Spray-glue it! Spray glue the back of the white and black keys.
    • Stick the white keys first: Stick the white keys to the inside of the black card. Leave a 2cm gap between the edge of the card and the bottom edge of the white keys. Stick the thinnest white key at the top of the card, then stick the rest below it.
    • Stick the black keys on top, making sure you leave a gap inbetween the group of 3 black keys and the group of 2 black keys (see picture above for guidance).
