Pretty & Simple Mothers Day Cards I Can Make

Mothers Day Cards I Can Make

Pressed Purple Flower On Handmade Paper

Want to make a mothers day card?
Here's a very simple handmade card design that uses a pressed purple flower from my garden, and three shades of purple handmade paper. It's great for Mother's Day, and indeed, for any occasion!
Difficulty Level: Suitable For Beginners
You Will Need:
  • A plain folded white card (C6)
  • 3 shades of purple handmade paper
  • 1 pressed purple flower
  • Spray on glue (I used 3M's Spray Mount)
  • PVC glue
  • Scissors
  • Ruler and pencil
  • Craft knife

Steps For Making This Mothers Day Greeting Card

  1. Measure, mark out, cut and tear:
    • The darkest purple handmade paper: Mark out a rectangle onto the darkest of your purple handmade papers. The width should be the same width of your folded card (landscape). The height should be just over a third of the height of your folded card. Cut the block of paper out with your scissors. Then carefully tear the top edge, for a hand-torn effect.
    • The lightest purple handmade paper: Next, mark out a rectangle onto the lightest of your purple handmade papers. Again, the width should be the same width of your folded card (landscape). The height should be just over a half the height of the piece of dark purple paper you've just cut out. Cut the block of light purple paper out with your scissors. Then carefully tear the top edge, for a hand-torn effect.
    • The mid-purple handmade paper: Repeat the same step for your last piece of purple handmade paper. This time, the height should be just over a half the height of the piece of light purple paper you've just cut out. Cut the block of mid-purple paper out, and carefully tear the top edge, for a hand-torn effect.
  2. Spray glue: Spray glue the light purple paper onto the dark purple paper, so that the straight edge of the light purple paper overlaps the hand-torn edge of the dark purple paper. Then spray glue the mid-purple paper onto the light purple paper, making sure the straight edge of the mid-purple paper overlaps the hand-torn edge of the light purple paper. Then spray the whole thing (the 3 pieces of paper that are now stuck together), flip it over, and position it onto the folded card.
  3. Mothers Day Cards I Can MakeTrim: Trim the edges with a craft knife if the block of purple paper passes over the edges of your card.
  4. Stick Pressed Flower: Carefully spray glue the back of your pressed flower and stick it into place. Add a little PVC glue to the bottom of its stem to make sure it stays in place.
  5. Optional: Emboss 'Happy Mother's Day' (or your message of choice), along the lightest strip of handmade purple paper.
